Nanda then returns to Brazil as her pregnancy with twins progresses. At her house, she has to deal with her mother Marta (Lilia Cabral), who rejects her pregnant daughter. Nanda ends up dying in childbirth, and Marta decides to raise only her grandson, omitting the live birth of her twin sister with Down Syndrome.
